History

The Humboldt Child Abuse Council was established in 1978 with the purpose of bringing together private and public agencies and interested individuals involved in fields related to the prevention, intervention and treatment of child physical and sexual abuse and child neglect.  For a short time, it was known as Humboldt Child Trauma Council.  In 1985, the California Legislature passed AB 1980, which provided statutory authority for a child abuse council in each county and our organization took on this role (see Welfare & Institution Code).  In 1986, our organization became a non-profit corporation- The Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council of Humboldt County.
