Thank you for the work you do every day to support children, youth, families, and the health of our community.
Our aim is to build on your decades-long work by promoting strategies members of the general public can see themselves doing.
The goal of your group or organization is to take action and make a concrete difference. Most people said they want to help reduce child abuse and neglect – but were not sure what to do. The ideas listed below are all actionable by the general public. We ask you to promote this by sharing the Family First/Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council website with your groups, friends, colleagues and neighbors.
Promote Family First in your newsletter or e-letter.
Sponsor one of Family First programs/strategies, or youth organizations, that resonates with your organization.
- Playgroups for children 0-5 and their caregivers’ provided throughout the county by First 5. Playgroups offer developmental information and a circle of supportive individuals with whom parents can share their parenting journey!
- Any of the 20 Community Pathway Sites, where resources can be accessed and referrals made to early parenting programs.
- North Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Boys & Girls Clubs
Connect with the families already involved in your organization.
Many of your members may be parents or grandparents. Host a picnic or potluck for your organization and invite spouses, kids, grandkids, and friends.

Support youth as part of your mission.
Rotary, Lions, and Soroptimist are organizations that help children, youth, and families in our community.
Encourage your organization to support Child Abuse Prevention.
The second Wednesday in April is the day to wear blue to show your support for ending child abuse and neglect. Snap a photo of your entire club dressed for the occasion, and then share it on social media with the hashtag #WearBlueHC to connect with others supporting the cause.
Plant “gardens” of blue pinwheels, the symbols of a safe and carefree childhood. Follow CAPCC of Humboldt on Facebook to see all we’re up to each year during the month of April.

Make sure children and youth are represented in your programs.
Your work not only benefits youth but can involve youth, like the Lions Club’s Lions Quest program, the Rotary Club’s Interact Clubs, or the Kiwanis’ K-Kids, Builders Clubs, and Key Clubs for developing young leaders.
Social connection and social support are the cornerstones of family well-being and child safety.
